Since 1998, Mr. A. F. M. Conway, better known as Con Conway, has been Chairman of I.Tel Holdings Ltd., an investment shareholding company for IT related activities.
Con has been in Hong Kong for 40 years. Prior to his present position, he was a director of New World Telephone for 2 years and has also been a director of Hongkong Telecom for 11 years. Before joining Hongkong Telecom, he has been the Hong Kong chief executive of four computer firms, viz Honeywell Information Systems, Data General, Unysis and NCR, each for 5 years.
Con is well known in the information technology industry in Hong Kong. Having worked on installing the first computer in Hong Kong, delivered to China Light & Power in 1963 as a key team-member of vendor NCR, Con was nicknamed by the press as “father of information technology in Hong Kong”.
He is Chairman of the Hong Kong Management Association Information Technology Committee, past President of the Hong Kong Information Technology Federation and also past President of Hong Kong Computer Society. He was an Honorary IT Adviser to the Urban Council and was a long-term key member of The Law Reform Commission of Hong Kong Topic 27 – Privacy. He sits on a number of government bodies, tertiary institute, vocational, community service and sports boards including Deputy Chairman of Member Services Committee and Member of Disciplinary Committee, Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Chairman , Chung Ying Theatre Company and Vice President of Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China.
Con is a Fellow of The Hong Kong Institute of Directors, Hong Kong Management Association, British Computer Society and the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. He also is a Chartered Information Technology Professional (CITP) and holds a Diploma in Company Direction from the HKIoD.
